Hello everyone, I recently switched from Fedora WS to Aurora on my Framework laptop and it has been, for the most part, a great experience. However, I have been experiencing issues with docking the laptop.
I have a USB-C dock that I’ve used with this laptop for years with no issues, and it does work just fine with Aurora, until I close the laptop, at which point the computer will go into sleep mode, and I can’t wake it without opening the laptop again. It won’t work at all if I try plugging it in while closed. It does work with the laptop closed if I reboot and then close it so it powers on while closed, but if I open it and close it at any point, the issue re-emerges.
This isn’t a huge issue, but it’s pretty annoying and it’s made me not want to dock my laptop as much, so I would love to know if there’s a solution.
This would definitely be an improvement, but I think it should be based on the fact that there’s video output rather than just being on battery power. As in, I would want it to not enter sleep mode even if I had the laptop connected directly to a display without any power connection.
The Power Management settings imply that this is how it should work, because it has a checkbox for whether you want these settings to apply “even when an external monitor is connected,” but it doesn’t seem to work properly for me.
Update: Still struggling with this, however the issue does seem to be lessened somewhat? Previously, rebooting with the laptop closed would fix the issue until re-opening the lid, but now it fixes the issue for the entire time that it’s plugged in to the dock. After disconnecting, it’s the same as before once re-connected. I also noticed this indicator that isn’t there when I dock the laptop if it’s already powered on, but does appear when it was powered on while connected to the dock (even after disconnecting and reconnecting, which breaks this functionality despite it still claiming it should work this way, and at that point the toggle doesn’t do anything either). This indicator also remains for the entire time that the laptop is powered on at that point, even after being disconnected from the dock.
It seems like this feature is checking for an external monitor only on boot or something? I’m really stumped on this and would appreciate it if anyone has additional insight.
