Hi! Sometimes, my computer will enter sleep mode, and won’t exit. It seems to get stuck in this sort of limbo, being partially powered on, and partially powered off. All the fans remain running, and power to the peripherals isn’t interrupted (USBs still have power), but the power LED and CPU fan LED goes dark.
I’ve tried to wake the machine while it’s in this state using a mouse, keyboard, and numpad, but have had no luck. To make sure that the mouse was awake, I moved it back and forth for a few minutes straight, with no luck. I’ve also tried using SSH to get in while stuck in this mode, but still, no luck. I don’t think SSH is running while in this mode. The only way I’ve been able to get out of this is by forcefully power cycling the machine.
Fortunately, it does seem like logs are recorded, to a point. Details of the machine entering sleep mode are present, but it seems like there is no activity after a point. Could this indicate that parts of the computer have successfully entered sleep mode?
Also, I have noticed that when LibreOffice is running when the machine is entering sleep mode, the computer is much more likely to get stuck in this state. I’ve been able to consistently replicate this. However, I have not opened LibreOffice in a few days, and still experienced the issue.
Any idea of what to try next?
Thanks for the help!
Hey,
I did some research, and saw posts of Fedora users dealing with the same problem. Some of them said disabling IOAPIC 24-119 in their BIOS fixed the issue. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like it made a difference. I encountered the issue again earlier today.
I did some more investigating, and managed effect the issue… slightly. I disabled all devices capable of waking the machine barring USBs. Now the behavior that occurs is slightly different, with the Power LED and CPU fan staying on.
I also enabled the Nvidia GPU sleep service, but that doesn’t seem to have impacted anything.
Finally, I should add that I have had this issue since first installing Bazzite.
Does anyone have any guesses at all or anything else I could try? As I was typing this, I had to leave and do some other stuff, and came back to my machine stuck with the issue! This issue has become very frustrating, so any ideas towards a potential solution are greatly appreciated.
Thank you for taking the time to read this!
I have not had your specific issue, my issue is my Bazzite Living room PC was set to go to sleep after 30 minutes, and my LG TV would turn off. Sometimes pushing a key on my keyboard would wake the PC and come back on screen, other times it seems to wake the TV but would not display on the TV.
Rather than tinker around my solution was to get a remote PC Power switch, and set my PC to shut down after 30 minutes of inactivity. Then I just turn on the TV and push the power button, and have had no issues since.
The only thing this may be helpful with is if others are having issue with how Bazzite deals with sleep, unless its a GPU thing.
Interesting! Today, I had an issue similar to what you were experiencing. Even though my PC woke from sleep, it was failing to display anything. I needed to unplug and plug my monitor back in, then it would display again. So it could definitely be graphics related. I think it could even be a mix of both graphics and sleep issues, maybe separate, maybe interacting.
