Bazzite is the BEST!

Hello all, I don’t see a lot of praise posts around here and I lurk here every now and again.

First I wanted to give my Linux story. I’ve been using Linux off and on for years and this year I decided to switch to Linux fully. I built a new machine with an AMD CPU and GPU, then verified I would have working parts (mobo, wifi, etc) on any Linux distro.

The first distro I started with was Nobara. I mainly use my desktop for gaming so this was its intended purpose, and I still think Nobara is great, but I had some issues with updates a few months in and it always had problems respecting my dual monitor setup, so that prompted me to just try another distro.

I’ve used Arch on my home servers for years so I decided to try CachyOS after hearing all the praise for it. It was an absolute nightmare. CachyOS had a bugged installer for me, crashed the first time, then when I got it to install, I had nothing but problems. KDE didn’t like my monitor setup, games kept launching on my second screen far worse than Nobara, and when I tried to install their gaming packages it failed on some packages. For whatever reason Bottles kept breaking too, which is a program I use heavily.

Finally I landed on Bazzite. I love Fedora Silverblue, I use it on my main laptop and I’m fine with an immutable distro. Bazzite installed no issues, Bottles worked without any problems, and most importantly KDE seems to respect my dual monitor setup without me having to do anything. One thing that really surprised me in the majority of games is that I have higher frame rates than CachyOS and Nobara. It’s not anything crazy, but most games I regularly play run 5-6fps faster on average.

So cheers to the devs and contributors! Bazzite is truly amazing! I can’t wait to see what 2025 has in store! Y’all keep doing your magic!

Great post! I’d like to chime in.

I’ve also tried CachyOS and Nobara, but both had issues and when I finally installed Bazzite earlier this year, hassle-free times started and I’m enjoying it a lot. Actually, most of the time I don’t think about it at all which is a big plus for me personally. The OS doesn’t get in the way and just works.

The title of your post sums it up quite nicely
