Bazzite 44 clean install is unstable

The longer I leave my computer run the issues get worst.

  1. Random apps stop loading when trying to open from anywhere. Sometimes when waiting before trying again, some do start loading.
  2. Panel crashed and reloaded. And when the panel came back up the Individual Care Usage and Network Speed Widgets are just blank in the panel. System Monitor shows no graph at all.
  3. I have 64 Gigs of memory and 16 Gigs of Swap went to 100% usage. That’s 80 Gigs of usage but went down. I had nothing open and Bazzite was still using 50%.
  4. Bazzite did crash ones.
  5. Can’t get Firefox to show up right.
  6. Can 't upload pictures using Opera GX and since I can’t use Firefox to upload, I’ll send it to Bazzite-help in Discord under same username Sandman192 and you can see it there.

Just a wild stab in the dark here (plus it’s only about apps). But, have you used Flatseal to use x11 instead of Wayland in your apps? In one of my flatpaks, I’d done that and it wouldn’t run under Bazzite 44. I turned the Wayland Windowing System back on and got rid of the xcb environment variable in Flatseal and it started working again.

EDIT: how are you using Opera GX? I don’t see a flatpak in Bazaar.

All by default and all by Bazaar or by Steam. Everything works when it want’s to. The longer Bazzite is running the more unstable it gets.

Opera GX is under Bazaar. It just came out in May.

A restart fixes most of the problems.

This might be a stupid question, but I have to ask, what version of bazzite did you choose for installation?

There is an image with legacy nvidia hardware drivers and one with newer nvidia hardware drivers. The 1080ti is already on legacy support. And it is possible that even with the legacy driver option, that things might not work well on newer versions of bazzite/fedora. I have seen a few threads mentioning issues with these older cards.

You may need to try reinstalling, and using a newer card with the appropriate bazzite image for drivers to troubleshoot. I know this isn’t any fun, sorry about that. Please also make sure that you have the latest bios for your motherboard as well.

Friends ask me to install Bazzite on their new machines. After version 44 and so many issues — rollback to 43, no problems. I don’t know what the hell happened to the newer Fedora/Bazzite version. My own system was rollback to 43 as well.

I couldn’t get Bazzite 44 to work because KDE would coredump, but switching to Bazzite GNOME 44 seemed fine

do you get any error messages or clues in the logs? run journalctl --boot or journalctl --boot --user in the terminal?

if you’ve had a crash/freeze, you can try to view logs from the previous boot with --boot=-1
