I seem to be unable to use my external monitor. When I plug it in, nothing happens on the monitor and the laptop display freezes. The laptop itself is not frozen, for example if I have a youtube video playing I can still hear it and I can pause and resume if I click on it or using space bar. If I unplug the monitor, the laptop display is instantly recovers and I can see everything I changed while it was frozen.
I’d provide logs but I am new to linux so I’m not sure what logs to provide or how to conjure them.
Laptop is a lenovo T480 with UHD Graphics 620 integrated graphics and NO discrete GPU. Monitor is Samsung Gaming Odyssey G9 G95C with native resolution of 5120x1440.
I’m connecting them using the displayport port on a ThinkPad USB-C Dock Gen 2 docking station. Laptop does not have a display port, only hdmi, but the HDMI port is limiting the resolution (not sure if it’s the cable or a hardware limitation) so docking station seems like my only option to get native resolution.
If I plug the monitor and then boot the laptop, I do get an image of the boot up loading screen with the spinner and according to the monitor OSD, it is running 5120x1440 but once it reaches the login screen it instantly freezes both monitor and laptop display.
Booting up on windows I can confirm the laptop can drive the monitor at 5120x1440@60Hz.
