Lockscreen stuck on laptop display when using external display

Hello everyone,
I am encountering a very weird issue where when I have an external monitor plugged (HDMI) in my Framework 13 (AMD) and I am trying to unlock my session (that was previously locked), my session does unlock (I can see my program on my external display) but the Framework’s display is stuck on the lockscreen, but I can still interact with the desktop environment on the external display. I had this issue when I put my NVME that was on another laptop (was running Bluefin latest at the time) but I decided to do a fresh Bluefin install and the issue got away. However, it seems that it is coming back.
I am running Bluefin latest-42.20250530.1 on a Framework 13 (AMD Ryzen 5 7640U). I didn’t find anything of use in dmesg.
Currently the work around is :

  • unplugging the HDMI cable
  • close the lid to put the laptop to sleep
  • wake it up and unlock it
  • reconnect the HDMI cable
  • or simply restart
Is this a known issue ? If you have any idea on what to check/to do, I’ll gladly test it out !

Thanks.

Howdy!

I’m a Linux Support Specialist with Framework, and when I have an opportunity to do so, I’m going to look into this for you and try to replicate the issue.

Out of curiosity, are you at all able to test if this same behavior happens with DisplayPort as well? My initial educated guess is that this could be HDMI related, but I don’t want to rule out any possibilities and more data points rarely hurt.

I hope you’re enjoying your hardware outside of this issue, but we do take any and all feedback into account.

Hi !
Thank you for your fast reply and my apologies for my slow anwser, I was sick for a few days.
I do have the DisplayPort module as well as a display to test with. I will do some testing and report to you as fast as I can.

Hello again,
I have not been able to reproduce the bug again on HDMI and couldn’t test on DisplayPort. Although, the lockscreen sometimes hangs if I don’t simply move the mouse cursor.
