Windows 11 Installation Fails at 77% Dual Boot with Bazzite OS

I am attempting to configure a dual boot system with Bazzite OS as the primary OS and Windows 11 on a separate SSD (Crucial P310, 500GB). The installation process consistently terminates at 77%with the following error message:

Windows installation failed

What i did

  • CSM tested in both enabled and disabled

  • UEFI Mode no Legacy

  • Installation attempted via multiple USB 2.0 ports

  • All non-essential USB devices disconnected during installation.

  • Windows installation media created using:

    • dd (Linux image writer)

    • Ventoy

    • Microsoft Media Creation Tool

Hardwarw

  • AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT -Gigabyte Aorus Elite AX

  • AMD Ryzen 9 7900X

  • Has anyone encountered this specific issue with a similar hardware configuration?

  • Could this be related to the SSD, BIOS settings, or a conflict with Bazzite OS?

  • Are there any known workarounds or additional troubleshooting steps?

According to:

If you install Windows second, you should disconnect the Bazzite drive to prevent using the Windows installer of using its EFI partition.

But, it doesn’t sound like that’s what you’re running into. It’s worth a try, though.

EDIT: After a bit more looking around, other people have reported that it looks like Windows might be trying to reboot during its installation phase and can’t figure out which drive to use. It looks like disabling the non-Windows drives during install fixed things for them. So, same thing to try, but for a different reason from what’s in the Bazzite guide.

I found the solution. I had to manually clean the SSD using the command prompt during the installation. After that, it worked. Thanks for your help!
