Hi all, I’ve followed a few guides online to dual boot Bazzite and I’m coming across an error that others haven’t come across - “Error checking storage configuration”
I’ve created a separate unformatted partition for Bazzite, I’ve booted off my USB and unable to proceed after selecting the unformatted partition with that error popping up in the Installation Summary page.
I’ve removed device encryption in Windows 11 and Fast Boot / Secure Boot is disabled in BIOS.
Anything I might have missed or done incorrectly?
Thanks!
Hi all, I’ve done a little more digging and it seems like Bazzite needs at least half the size of the drive as a dedicated partition? In my case it’s a 4TB drive, and I was giving Bazzite 1TB.
Did you figure out a solution?
If you haven’t, you could probably get help from the Bazzite discord.
Throwing some stuff to double check as well:
- Did you already shrink the Windows Partition before attempting to install Bazzite?
- Your error code is not this “Error code 1” correct?
- IDK what guides you were following, but the documentation here and its guide video was enough for me.
Hi, thank you for the reply. Appreciate it.
I did a bit more looking around Reddit and it seemed people who had this problem may needed to split the drive 50/50 between a Windows 11 and Bazzite partition, i.e. in my case with a 4TB drive, you’d need 2TB for Windows 11 and 2TB for Bazzite.
I was looking to roughly do a 1TB Windows 11, 1TB Bazzite, and 2TB shared between the two.
I did - have a look here:

The error code was: “Error checking storage configuration”
This isn’t my photo but same error message:
Man I was literally having this problem yesterday with my legion go and I tried to google a solution. This is the only thing that I can say worked. I went through so many USBs and ISOs Thank you for doing the due diligence yourself. Who knew you couldn’t set bazzite to have less than half the storage size of your SSD.
Fantastic to hear this solved your problem. I wonder if there’s any mention from the developer why this is the case and if it will be fixed in the future?
I’m happy to wait for a solution that fixes this issue
I believe the only other solution I saw from other people having a similar issue was to install the OS on a microSD and clone the partition using GParted. Since I am on the legion go and it has a native portrait display I could not get GParted to configure properly and launch. I’m using a 2280 adapter too that makes removing the drive and troubleshooting with the original drive so much more hassle than it should be.
I noticed this as well - though this is a little more effort than I’m willing to undertake
Hopefully the devs fix this limitation
