Why gnome-terminal has disappeared without any updates after reboot?

After a reboot today I was unable to use gnome-terminal because it was removed. Not by me. And I was not doing any updates myself. I was layering some packages with rpm-ostree install --apply-live -y, but gnome-terminal was not uninstalled by any of those.

What happened? And why my system can have unexpected changes I was not asking for?

The Bazzite team decided it is not neccessary and removed it.

I’m not sure how overlaying works with --apply-live, but you must have somehow updated the system. Normally overlaying gets the latest available image and applies your changes to it.

We haven’t supported gnome-terminal in a long time. It’s now removed from the images and will not be coming back. I highly recommend you give Ptyxis a try, Fedora itself is making the same change.

Took a bit for Ptyxis to grow on me but I gotta say, it’s a great terminal. It’s handling of containers is top notch!
Only feature I would like to see it support is hiding the Header bar similar to Black Box terminal.
