"ujust update" vs KDE Software Update?

Is there a difference between running “ujust update” in the terminal and the update in KDE’s (and possibly GNOME’s) System Settings > Software Update area?

Does “ujust update” run automatically in the background? Or, do I have to manually run it?

I’ve got KDE Software Update now set to Manual with Daily Notifications, but so far, I haven’t gotten any kind of notification. Is that setting saying it’ll check every day and if (and only if) there are updates, I’ll get a notification? Or, am I supposed to get a notification every day, regardless?

So Bazzite does not use the KDE software system update system or gnome update system, same with Bluefin and Aurora…these all currently use silent background updates as the default system. The ujust update command initiates a manual update for everything; if the update contains any system updates (not flatpak and runtime stuff) you should restart computer afterwards to apply the updates.

Uupd timer is used to determine when background updates take place. It can also be disabled if you prefer manual updates only.

I’d actually like my updates to happen automatically (system-wide and KDE). The problem is, I’ve never gotten any kind of notification that updates are ready or that updates have happened. I’m pretty sure automatic updates have happened since, occasionally, I’ll notice a change in behavior. But, it would be nice to know what’s going on with the system so I could check out change logs.

I did find the following:

which says:

Desktop Images

  • System updates happen automatically daily on a schedule and when the hardware is not under heavy use, like playing video games.

    • There is a check in-place to only update the image when your CPU, battery, and RAM usage meets certain requirements.
  • Updates will be downloaded in the background and will apply on the next reboot and should contain the newest build of Bazzite.

But, again, I’ve never gotten any kind of notification when an automatic update happened or is ready (but waiting for a reboot). But, maybe I’ve been lucky and my manual ujust update has happened early enough to stop any such notification. If I did get a notification, then I could do a ujust changelogs to see what’s up.

I don’t think there are update notifications. At least, I have never noticed one. The updates just happen silently in the background.

If you check for updates on your flatpaks for example, you will see that every day the available updates from the day before will have all been applied.

When you reboot, you will get whatever the latest image that was downloaded.
