A late, quick announcement on the status of the 64GB eMMC drive that was sold in the LCD Steam Deck that suffered filesystem corruptions sometime between the 6.1 and 6.5 kernel upgrade. This required a kernel patch that has now been upstreamed! I can confirm that Bazzite on my stock 64GB Steam Deck LCD does not currently exhibit the symptoms that it did in the past and everything seems to be working as intended.
If you have a 64GB Steam Deck and never upgraded the storage and wanted to try Bazzite, now you can! Documentation will be changing to reflect these changes so Steam Decks no longer require to be the “256GB+” variants to run Bazzite.
Without having concrete statistics, we can make the assumption that the 64GB eMMC Steam Deck model was one of the least popular models and it earned a reputation of being the cheap model to buy explicitly to replace the drive afterwards by the community. Regardless, it’s still a good thing that the 64GB eMMC drive in it can properly run Bazzite now for parity with SteamOS. If you haven’t heard the news already, SteamOS itself is also expanding beyond the Steam Deck soon.
