I’m knew to using flatpack app so I noticed I can’t share my screen in Zoom/Jitsi (it works in Signal interestingly) and also I cant’t use app like Peek/Blue Recorder to screen record
I don’t have anything to share in all those apps… they can’t see each other being containerized?
There’s must be a solution right ?!
are Zoom/Jitsi/Peek/Blue Recorder running as xclients or wayland clients?
the easiest way I know of, is to install xeyes and move the mouse around, because I’m lazy. If your cursor is over an XWayland/X11 window, the eyes in xeyes will follow your cursor around, if you’re over a Wayland window, xeyes has no idea where the mouse is, and won’t follow your cursor around the screen.
I know there’s other ways to do it, and possibly even some actual utilities built to do this, that’s just the simple hacky way I figured out how to do it.
so your advice with xeyes is to determine if I’m in wayland or x right?
Once I know what should I do/ be in for my apps to see each other?
xeyes is not in the flatpack library…
No, it isn’t, it would be something you either install in a toolbox/distrobox, or layer with rpm-ostree
I installed both Signal and Zoom in flatpack and I’m able to share screen in Signal but not in Zoom.
Does someone know why and how I can change the settings of the zoom app (or any other app) to allow screen sharing?
thanks a lot as it is really inconvenient.
May want to read the issue here. The quick fix is to use X11 when using Zoom or trying any of the fixes listed here.
XWaylandVideoBridge is also a potential fix, I don’t rightly know if it will work for zoom specifically, but it does for many things.
@SFaulken @nicknamenamenick
that’s great guys, found solution for zoom and Jitsi.
@nicknamenamenick your pointed issue solves the problem for zoom.
Jitsi app doesn’t propose the same option, but using it in the browser works.
None of the screen recorder like Peek or Blue recorder propose the pipewire option so I still need to find one that works.
Almost there! thanks
thanks @SFaulken I’m starting to understand what you were pointing to after watching Jorge’s new video and ujust… slowly but surely
I had to set share screen in Zoom to use pipewire mode.
Unfortunately, we’re still in a transitional period on linux, and there’s not an “easy” solution for all this stuff, where you can just point a user at a wiki that’s got “the solution”.
But I’m glad to hear you’re getting things sorted.
