Rebasing to NVIDIA with 960M not working

Hi,

I have an old laptop with a 960M graphic card. From what I’ve gathered, I needed to download the non-NVIDIA iso and then rebase to the closed NVIDIA iso (I hope I understood well!!).

To rebase, I used (found here) :

sudo bootc switch --enforce-container-sigpolicy ghcr.io/ublue-os/bluefin-nvidia:gts

It downloads well, but when I reboot as prompted, I get :

❯ rpm-ostree status
State: idle
Warning: failed to finalize previous deployment
error: Finalizing deployment: Finalizing SELinux policy: failed to run semodule: Child process exited with code 1
check journalctl -b -1 -u ostree-finalize-staged.service
AutomaticUpdates: stage; rpm-ostreed-automatic.timer: no runs since boot

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!!

the closed nvidia (or legacy nvidia driver) images are not supported anymore and won’t get any updates, so don’t rebase to those.

Bazzite has support for the closed-nvidia images for the next three years. Aurora and Bluefin have deprecated those images unfortunately.

This means if I want to have the Bluefin experience on this laptop I should install Bazzite? It’s for my 6yo kid who started playing Luanti and other small Linux games.

you either use the normal bluefin image without nvidia drivers (and use the opensource drivers - which propably are not great) or switch to bazzite if you want to have the official nvidia drivers.

Are there any inconveniences to use Bazzite vs. normal Bluefin? Or is it just Bluefin set up for gaming?

I’d say for your use case, Bazzite is fine. Many people use KDE desktop with Bazzite. There are some things not available in Bazzite vs Aurora but if it’s gaming I’d think you would be fine.

Great! Thanks a lot for your help y’all! Truly appreciated
