Private Internet Access (PIA) & OpenVPN (AKA When You Cannot Use OpenVPN 2/3)

Private Internet Access (PIA) & OpenVPN (AKA When You Cannot Use OpenVPN 2/3)

Just in case anyone needs this setup, I wanted to share the solution when using uBlue/Silverblue (and its derivatives).

I could not find this anywhere else, so I posted a how-to on my forked copy of PIA’s FOSS repo.

Assumptions:

  • Private Internet Access Service
  • PIA GUI App does not run, due to the atomic nature/permissions of uBlue/Silverblue.
  • The user may want to (or needs to):
    • Run an incredibly affordable and discreet VPN.
    • Uses dedicated/static IP (IPv4) service
    • Needs a double-VPN, like in these situations:
      • Uses dedicated/static IP (IPv4) service for whitelisting AND needs to then run another VPN on top to authenticate to a remote server.
      • Just wants added privacy.
