Updates aren’t very efficient since we’re downloading the custom layer every day. Adding a layered package will add some but our layer is already large. There is inprogress work to use zstd:chunked for better efficiency:
No timeline on when we’ll get this for ublue but it’s currently inprogress in upstream Fedora.
ujust toggle-updates will let you toggle auto updates on and off if you want a more granular approach to applying updates.
We’ll likely turn it on for the distroboxes we publish when ubuntu’s 24.04 runners get out of beta (it needs a newer version of podman than what we currently have) so that’ll be transparent.
No clue on a github issue, Fedora uses gitlab and a bunch of other trackers so not sure where they’re tracking that one.
