Layered package, huge update size very often

Every now and then, I have a huge update size (~ 3 GB), always due to a “custom layers needed”.

My only layered package is google-chrome-stable

I guess it is because it downloads the whole package when it updates ?
Is that normal ?
I don’t think it was happening with other distro

Updates aren’t very efficient since we’re downloading the custom layer every day. Adding a layered package will add some but our layer is already large. There is inprogress work to use zstd:chunked for better efficiency:

No timeline on when we’ll get this for ublue but it’s currently inprogress in upstream Fedora.

ujust toggle-updates will let you toggle auto updates on and off if you want a more granular approach to applying updates.

Okay,
Would it do the same thing with distrobox instead ?

Very nice to hear
Is there any GitHub issue I can subscribe to about that ?

We’ll likely turn it on for the distroboxes we publish when ubuntu’s 24.04 runners get out of beta (it needs a newer version of podman than what we currently have) so that’ll be transparent.

No clue on a github issue, Fedora uses gitlab and a bunch of other trackers so not sure where they’re tracking that one.
