I have a question about why it seems that update speeds with the Silverblue image seems faster than with the BluefinDX image, even when I had more layered packages with Silverblue. Then I came across this topic.
Does that mean all the extra stuff added into BluefinDX is actually a layer as well even though none of those packages are listed as layered and that being the reason why updating seems to take longer than with BluefinDX?
The basic silverblue image is something like 3gigs, compared to the bluefins ~6.6
So even the base image is like twice the size as there is lot of things already in the image that you would need to layer on top of SB.
I guess they can be called layers when they are slapped on to the image when its built, it is just built inside so the system doesn’t see them as layers added afterwards.
I hadn’t thought of that since I rebased from SB to BF and not see the iso size differences. Yeah that’s what I liked about BF having the builtin already tools so that I don’t have to add it myself. I was just hoping that updates would have been faster now that I only have to layer 3 packages. I guess we can’t have it all. Thanks for your reply!
If I remember correctly @j0rge has written on this forum somewhere that delta downloads will be available as soon Silverblue will completely replace rpm-ostree with bootc. I hope I remember this correctly, if not I apologise I am getting old and senile.
