Is there a tutorial available for installing/config of Hyprland

Okay the various videos for Hyprland and the configs I’ve seen has raised my curiosity.
Unfortunately, I’m finding it hard to get research or tutorials on Bazzite like I find on other distros.

So does anyone know of a great Hyprland install/config on Bazzite?

Custom image or google there are few user images available

Well, I’ve googled “install Hyprland on Bazzite” in every way possible with no results. In fact, with much of my searching for information, anytime I search for something on Bazzite there are no responses.

And I found one tutorial but following the directions failed on the first step. The guy said to first install kitty, which he did with the Arch replacement for apt. But when I tried that on Bazzite it never found kitty. So I’m dead in the water. and THAT is why I want a Bazzite specific tutorial on youtube for installing Hyprland on Bazzite.

Hyprland on Bazzite is going to be hard mode unless you find someone who has already done it.
Instructions for other distros (arch, Debian, Ubuntu, etc.) usually don’t apply.

Here’s a post about Hyprland on Bazzite. Don’t know how far they got with it.

Yup that has been my experience. Lot’s of tutorials but none for Bazzite.
And, as I said in my prior post, it seems that every aspect I want to know about with Bazzite only brings up YouTube tutorials on everything BUT Bazzite. Guess this isn’t that greatly used.

The consensus is that if you want some other DE/WM than what is provided needs a pretty much a custom image.

We have the image template GitHub - ublue-os/image-template: Build your own custom Universal Blue Image! where you can create your own image very easily and then add needed packages (for Hyprland etc).

Without an custom image you would be layering lot of packages to your bazzite install which would mean that at some point, at least pretty surely when Fedora 43 releases, your updated would break until all the hyprland packages have been updated. And even then you might need to reset your layers (it would remove the layered hyprland packages) then update, and then add all those packages back.

Also your updates would become much slower with those layered packages.

The linked repo above (bazzite-custom) is my own. I tried writing a decent guide on how to make your own image in the README. It can be a little intimidating at first, but if you give it a try I think you’ll find it not so bad. Granted, this is coming from a software developer already familiar with how all these technologies work.

If you give it a shot and have questions, feel free to ping me here.
