Just popped up on my feed: https://youtu.be/K6-GMTq2T7s?si=vKYTSlep8rNevZLG
Thanks for always posting stuff here =)
It was good video, highly recommend watching!
The one part of the video I found interesting as a “what should be added next?” was starting around 1:22:13 , talking about testing.
Sure, I am aware a lot of automated testing already happens on github and elsewhere but I think we have all seen from time to time an issue or two still make it to the ‘stable’ branch.
And I thought as a concept, wouldn’t it be a cool feature if there was a simple GUI in the OS for switching back and forth from the testing branch to the stable branch, rather than in the terminal along with an anonymous bug reporting tool (included in the testing branch only) that allows the user to send bug reports to the OS repository on github where a bot picks it up and after doing some validity/formatting checks, proceeds to post it to the testing branch issues section in github.
The Tester GUI can tell folks:
“Hey, come check out the testing branch we have this awesome list of ‘x’ new stuff for you to try out! Best of all, everything you do in testing stays in testing! Switch back to your main desktop any time, like nothing ever happened.”
This way more people might be encouraged to test the testing branch and catch things before it makes it to stable.
Just a suggestion of course
.
I think this is already in Aurora, in the KDE settings, and I believe its available in Gamescope on the Deck version, but I dont think its on the DE version of Bazzite.
I agree, it would be cool to have this in the settings, just a drop down box to select Stable or testing, and a second box tot select latest, or previous versions, this functionality is available in the Terminal, but the less we the normal user sees of the terminal the better.
Another feature I would love to see, mainly for the Deck edition, is the ability to switch the desktop gui from Desktop, Plasma-Mobile and Plasma-Bigscreen.
