Install issues steam Fallout London

I have downloaded the Fallout London Downgrader (Linux)-1-1-5-1-1721922057.zip and unzipped it, but it contains a binary that won’t open in Bazzite Gnome version Desktop. Even when using ‘sudo su’ in the console, I encounter the following error:

sh ./FOLON-Downgrader
./FOLON-Downgrader: cannot execute binary file

You may need to chmod +x it to make it executable first

That is correct but won’t matter in this case as there’s further errors running that program on Bazzite at the moment. I just wound up using the GOG version of Fallout 4 myself.

Any tips on how to get it going with the GOG version? Been trying for two days both with Steam via Downgrading, got it to work once then never again.

Tried just moving the files from London over like the windows version would be but I was unable to get it to launch.

If you’re installing the GOG version through Heroic Launcher, then you can use the documentation provided by Heroic: Fallout: London guide · Heroic-Games-Launcher/HeroicGamesLauncher Wiki · GitHub

I’ve been somewhat struggling with this myself today, mainly with audio issues that are only fixed by certain versions of wine/proton (edit: The heroic guide uses Proton-GE-Latest).

(edit: You can get different versions of wine and proton through Heroic directly. I, fool that i am, forgot about this, and have been trying to figure out for hours “where do i get proton-GE-latest?” mystery solved)

the last config that i used that worked used ULWGL proton-8.0-5-3. it performed okay and didn’t really have any audio issues. (edit: just tried Proton-GE-latest downloaded/installed through Heroic’s Wine manager. HIGHLY recommend. all audio has worked fine, along with the engine bugfixes)
HOWEVER, i have been dealing with some crashes due to bugs in the engine that supposedly are solved with buffout 4 (Buffout 4 at Fallout 4 Nexus - Mods and community) (I haven’t tried it yet, i’m going to soon. you have to manually install by dragging files into the F4SE folder)

I will try and update after i try the bugfix

UPDATE:

I manually installed xSE Plugin Preloader and Buffout 4
IT WORKS
if anything breaks after this is will try and figure out the issue and update this post

ABSOLUTE LEGEND! THANK YOU!!! Will report back after I try this out.

HIGHLY recommend proton-GE-Latest
everything is currently working fine under it, just played like an extra hour alone on it

You put the mods in the FO4 GOTY Folder or the London folder?

Fallout 4 goty
Buffout 4 goes into the F4SE plugins folder (extract and drag contents into the plugins folder)
xSE Plugins preloader should just be dropped into the fallout 4 folder in Fallout 4: G.o.t.y.
The big thing is that Fallout 4 is the engine, and we’re trying to fix bugs in the engine. The London folder is basically just content (as far as I underatand)
If you have other issues, double check documentation. If you browse fallout London’s downgrader page on Nexus, they have some instructions for extra mods

Yup just saw on the ENB one that it says the FO4 folder. Getting all the other recommended mods downloaded because I got it working flawlesly with that stuff on my Windows Desktop. Thanks for the fast replies!

Are they working an linux version of vortex, the mod manager program? If it had linux version we could f.ex dowwload this list: Fallout London QoL Mods | Fallout 4 | Nexus Mods, and the game would run smooth

There are a few ways to get vortex installed on linux; either add it through lutris or use SteamTinkerLaunch. Personally, i use ModOrganizer2 (also available through STL, just different version), which has an installer for linux targeting Bethesda games (FO3, FNV, Elder scrolls, etc). The installer only really works if you have the steam version of the game.
Personally, i haven’t really messed with modding fallout 4 outside of Fallout London (because i want achievements), but it’s useful if you need to launch a game with a custom ini (so you can fix the game’s resolution without using the launcher every time)

ModOrganizer2 installer: GitHub - rockerbacon/modorganizer2-linux-installer: An easy-to-use Mod Organizer 2 installer for Linux

SteamTinkerLaunch (available to get through ProtonUpQT): GitHub - sonic2kk/steamtinkerlaunch: Linux wrapper tool for use with the Steam client for custom launch options and 3rd party programs

It may also be beneficial to get LOOT which is available as a flatpak. It allows easier viewing (and editing?) of load order for Bethesda games. It’s not mandatory by any means, but it’s one of the “just in case” tools.

Just thought I’d put this out there: I used Bottles, and the GOG versions of both Fallout 4 and Fallout London to get it done. Just installed GOG in a bottle, installed them both, and it basically just worked.

I even installed Vortex into the same bottle and got some mods installed and running. Nooow I just need to wait until someone comes up with a functional 32:9 patch for the UI.

I haven’t used bottles that much so I have a few questions about this:

  1. bottles kinda act like wine containers with customizable dependencies and such (c++, .net, etc), right?
  2. how exactly are you running /installing with bottles? is it just as simple as running an installer .exe with the “bottles” app as the program?

I’m asking just in case it’s easier to install mod managers through bottles rather than running installer scripts. In case i need to add more mods and manually installing is to painful

(EDIT: if anyone wants to try and install Fallout London with support for mod managers, go ahead and use bottles. I have not been able to get MO2 to work with my install through Heroic. The only way i can see it possibly working is if GOG added MO2 to their catalogue, and that’s highly unlikely.)
