How to use dGPU instead of iGPU in gaming mode UI?

My computer has a discrete NVIDIA GTX2080Ti GPU and a integrated Intel GPU.
It’s probably using the iGPU in gaming mode UI so the FPS is less than 20 in the UI which is very unsmooth. Whereas when I play games, the FPS is normal, >60FPS. Any ideas?

P.S: It’s the latest bazzite-deck-nvidia.

Thanks.

Any one can help? This issue is annoying

In steam add this as launch option:

DRI_PRIME=1 %command%

This worked for me when i tried to play Doom 2016

Is this for specific games? I am talking about gaming mode UI
Thanks for your reply.

The choppy steam gaming mode is because it’s using your Nvidia GPU. The Enable GPU accelerated rendering in web views (requires restart) setting in Steam should fix this.

That command is to launch a game with the dGPU, but I see that you have a different potential issue.

Try to enable the GPU acceleration in Steam’s settings as nicknamenamenick said. If it doesn’t work, close Steam completely and try to launch Steam with the dGPU.

Usually the command DRI_PRIME=1 steam command should work, otherwise right click Steam and see if you have the “Launch with descrete graphics” option appears.

Yes, enabling the GPU acceleration works but the left menu become chaotic. I guess that’s due to the unmatured N driver. If yes, we can’t do anything but wait for the driver update, right?

Many thanks.

Thank you! I just came across this and finally managed to get Doom 2016 to run with the Nvidia on my laptop.

I wonder why the “more popular” instructions (which most results suggest) don’t work:

❯ switcherooctl list
Device: 0
Name: Intel Corporation Meteor Lake-P [Intel Arc Graphics]
  Default: yes
  Discrete: no
  Environment: DRI_PRIME=pci-0000_00_02_0

Device: 1
Name: NVIDIA Corporation AD107M [GeForce RTX 4060 Max-Q / Mobile]
  Default: no
  Discrete: yes
  Environment: __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia __NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __VK_LAYER_NV_optimus=NVIDIA_only

I used to have: __NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia %command% but this did not work (game ran with Intel iGPU instead).

In fact, some posts like this one claim that DRI_PRIME is for AMD cards, and would not work with Nvidia…

This seemingly common thing (choosing the dGPU) can be such a pain!

what desktop are you using

Gnome from bluefin-dx-nvidia

Mabey this will help.

  • Access system settings:

    • Open your system settings (usually accessible through the top right corner menu).
  • Select preferred GPU:

    • Navigate to the “Graphics” or “NVIDIA Settings” section.
    • Choose “NVIDIA” as the preferred graphics card for applications like GNOME.

I’m seeing the same issue. Anybody ever find anything on this?

Laggy performance of gamescope steam UI.
