Intel LNL Graphic Perf issue in Steam Gaming mode (MESA 25.0.1)

Hello,

I am trying to check if possible to run Bazzite in Intel Battlemage Graphics. I saw some some youtube videos had already tested Intel Arc B580, which seems okay after Mesa 25 updates. However when I test it in my LNL laptop, once getting into Steam Gaming mode it has sevious perf issues:

  1. Call out left side menu (Ctrl + 1) will cause the fps drop a lot.
  2. FPS are much lower in Gaming mode than Desktop mode. (e.g. ROTTR is about 49fps in Gaming mode but 67fps in Desktop mode).

Can anyone run Bazzite in Intel Battlemage/LNL Graphic share your experience?

My final goal to see if Bazzite can be run in MSI Claw 8 AI+, which looks a nice handheld device.

Best Regards,
Alex

It still has some quirks/issues. Here is something that has been noted down in the discord Battlemage testing thread:

Gamemode quirks:

  • Moving the mouse will freeze gamemode until a few seconds after the mouse stops being active (fixed in testing 20250218)
  • If a game just lead to a black screen or “launching” indefinitely, try restart steam in the power menu when dev mode is enabled to fix it.
  • Switch to desktop sometimes sends you back into gamemode, if you keep trying you will end up in desktop mode eventually…
  • Startup movie does not visually play

Desktop quirks:

  • Switching to and from gamemode too many times in a row will for some reason put the steam account in a permanent “steam crashed last time” mode, fixing this involves removing the account from the steam account selector and logging in again normally (the ujust does not fix this issue as that one tries to preserve userdata)

General quirks:

  • Games sometimes use a very long time to load into the 3D world (will look frozen during loading screen)
  • Pausing might freeze the game for a few seconds (depends on how the pause screens are made and how many effects they have), similar to shader stutter but its only the first time you go into the pause screen
  • Mangohud cannot monitor any ARC GPU stats (at least for the b580)
  • Compiling the vulkan shaders beforehand seems at first glance to potentially be beneficial with intel unlike AMD where you dont have to.
  • Sunshine does not work at all, it might do 1 stream then crash and never recover (mouse movement does still freeze gamemode until you stop moving the mouse even through moonlight)
  • Certain lights/shadows can cause black artifacts that can cover the whole screen (only seen with FSR 2.1 in cyberpunk so far, other FSR 3 and XESS is unaffected, also does not happen with upscaling off) (Has improved with kernel 6.13 in regards to reflections )
