It doesn’t work to update in gamemode, it reaches 99% and gets stuck. After that, if you perform a restart or shutdown, it gets stuck at the “Shutting down Steam” stage. I tried waiting for some time, about half an hour, and it doesn’t get out of this state, so I have to forcibly turn off the device.
What’s the hardware?

But to be fair, I have same issue on Ayaneo Geek 6800u 800p version on BazziteOS, sometimes updates went normal, sometimes they stuck on 99% and it hangs on Shutting down Steam, helps switch to desktop mode and shutdown (or reboot) from there
Ah I see. Yeah, so that update progress bar is completely fake. I would try updating in Desktop Mode with the “System Update” application or ujust update in a terminal. Waiting for it to finish then rebooting to see if the same thing happens on your hardware.
Worst case scenario: enter rpm-ostree update in a terminal and wait for it to finish then reboot.
If you still have issues, make sure to let us know in this thread, but I would recommend making an open issue for Bazzite too so maintainers and contributors can look into this further.
Lately, I have been updating through the desktop mode using the command ujust update to avoid various issues. I decided to check if the update works through the gaming mode, but I was out of luck.

A maintainer with a handheld did some testing. It seems that the update has to finish once started before it can properly shut down in Steam Gaming Mode. Every update pulls ~4-6GB (I forget the exact number right now) from the Github Container Registry, so internet speed and the drive are important factors on how fast it completes. If the update applies in Desktop Mode and there is no concerning logs, then it should just be playing the waiting game until the update has completed back in Steam Gaming Mode since they both use the same update mechanisms.

As an added note, the update continues in the background even though the shutdown/restart screen is frozen.
Once complete the device will shutdown/restart as you told it to.
rpm-ostree update which does the update has no proper progress bar yet (it does however output info now when you use it in desktop mode which is way better than before!)
