Freeze / slowdown

Hello,

Has anyone ever experienced a PC programm, so far only games, simply hanging up for no apparent reason? Especially, but not only, when e.g. a browser is opened at the same time. I had this problem once with Bazzite 40, with a very resource-hungry program, but now it happens very often, and according to the Mission Centre program, the system resources are only used to about 30% capacity.

Everything then runs very slowly, and after a while you can usually close a programm. Then everything runs relatively normal again. A restart helps in any case.

It was Steam, I can’t yet say whether it occurs with other sources.

I realise that it sounds very general, but I haven’t been able to narrow it down beyond that.

Thanks

Yes I have. I am on bluefin-dx-nvidia:stable and use the Brave browser.

The solution for me was to turn OFF the ‘Use hardware acceleration if available’ Brave setting. Things seem more stable for me now.

The irony is that both Brave and VS Code use the integrated (Intel in my case) GPU. And not the discrete (Nvidia) GPU. So it is a head scratcher. I used nvtop to confirm that.

Note I do not play games but felt the effects in VS Code and Obsidian. The symptoms I experienced were:

  • Debug sessions in VS Code seemed to hang;
  • and scrolling in the browser and Obsidian would not happen

There is probably a more nuanced solution then the ‘bigger hammer technology’ I employed…

But, FYI.

Thank you very much, I have also seen that others have problems. It seems to have helped, let’s see how it looks in the long run.
