This is kind of the one thing that is bugging me. I’m trying to figure out how to do an em-dash (—). Intuitively I want to like control-shift-dash or shift-alt-dash. I’ve unsuccessfully scoured the internet for answers. This is probably such an easy fix(?).
You can set up a compose key, then type [compose-key] - - - (i.e. three dashes).
Edit: there is also this mention of ydotool that might work for you.
I use a programmable keyboard, so haven’t tried ydotool, et al.

I do this (use the compose key) — and I type a lot of em dashes.
