Do we think Firefox Plasma Integration will work eventually since Firefox is Flatpak?

I can’t get plasma integration working for Firefox as a flatpak. This wasn’t a problem with Fedora since it wasn’t Flatpak’ed. All the online looking seems to suggest it’s an open issue, but I haven’t seen recent conversations about it.

I love the Flatpak architecture, especially for Firefox. Not saying it should change. Just wondering if there’s any noise about fixing it.

Eventually, yes. Follow this issue: webextensions: add a portal for managing WebExtensions native messaging servers by jhenstridge · Pull Request #705 · flatpak/xdg-desktop-portal · GitHub

It’s slow going, but as far as I can see, the design seems to be mostly settled, it’s now just developing, implementation, and feedback - which can take a while because there isn’t strong voice driving it unlike other protocols.

There is, strictly speaking, a way to make it work - I think I put the hacky workaround in Free Download Manager’s flathub’s github repo. Should be linked somewhere in the WebExtension PR as well.
