Download Manager?

I made the leap recently to Bluefin, and am overall happy with the ease of use. However, I just tried every download manager on Bazaar, and only Gabut worked out of the box with its Firefox extension. Unfortunately, its UI is too painful to use. I suspect Flatpak permissions are the problem, since it’s my understanding that that’s pretty common for download managers.

I’ve been very pleased with the range of apps that have just worked, and I’m surprised there doesn’t seem to be a good option to fill this need. I’m further surprised to not find a guide on how to get the available Flatpak download managers to work, or even any discussion on this topic at all. I’m sure I could rig up aria2 to an extension like I’ve done before, or track down the permissions issues necessary to get the Flatpaks to work. However, I feel like if uBlue is intending to position itself as a serious provider OSes for everyday use, it will need a download manager that just works without needing to go to such lengths.

Are there really no projects seeking to fill this need? Is the situation more complicated than it seems? Or have I simply failed to find the easy solution?

When you run into issues such as plugin problems that turn out to be Flatpak-related, and you cannot resolve them using Flatseal or similar tools, the next step is to switch from the Flatpak version of Firefox to the package version. You can uninstall the Firefox Flatpak and temporarily layer (though this is not recommended) the packaged Firefox to test your plugins.

I ran into a similar problem with the 1Password Firefox integration. Instead of layering, I forked my version of Aurora on GitHub and used BlueBuild to build it, including both 1Password and Firefox as part of the image.
