Can’t find bluefin-dx-nvidia iso image on projectbluefin website. I mean old nvidia kernel module (closed source). Is it obsolete?
you can get it by editing the download url here: https://download.projectbluefin.io/bluefin-dx-nvidia-stable.iso
As to its support status however I have no idea.
Yes we’ll only be making open ISOs from now on, but will continue to make the closed images for a while to support people with existing installations.
What does it mean ? will we still be able to play the latest games with the open ISOs or should the gamers rebase to Bazzite instead ? what changes for the user between the closed and open source Nvidia driver ?
(Ignore the installation instructions there)
It depends on your hardware, anything older than a 16xx series will need to stay on the closed drivers. We won’t make ISOs for those, but we’ll keep making images for people who have those. That means we’ll support existing installations but people with older hardware will not be able to use our images with the nvidia drivers.
This is an nvidia change not something we’re doing, bazzite and aurora will also only have open ISOs moving forward.
For people who are on closed drivers with newer kit (RTX cards), we’ll rebase you to the open drivers at some point in the future after we get more testing done, etc.
Thank you, so in the end it will not make any difference for the user, it looks like everything will work the same, isn’t it ?
Yeah, unless you’re stuck on old hardware, but hopefully we can keep the builds going for as long as we can for those folks.
I do think if you have a card which doesn’t support the open drivers you can just install from a regular ISO and rebase to -nvidia
Should work fine, it should use the nouvea or whatever its called driver and then you can rebase to the -nvidia image
