Why is nvidia-open not picking up?

I was under the impression that about 6 months ago, the recommendation by Nvidia was to use the open-source kernel modules going forward.

I just noticed however that Package bluefin-dx-nvidia-open · GitHub has a much smaller “downloads in last week” graph than Package bluefin-dx-nvidia · GitHub

What is the reason people seem to be sticking with the proprietary drivers? Is there some lack of support for software, or some stability issue?

Atleast generally, the open drivers work better for some and worse for others.

But I guess the reason is that the -open image is not the default currently. And it only supports the more newer gens.

Also many users propably don’t even know about the open drivers atleast unless they are gamers and have been following the “nvidia journey in linux” closely.

We also haven’t generated ISOs of these or put them on the website, but we’ll sort that towards F42.

RIght now on bluefin you have to actively choose to be on nvidia-open.

This may change in the future but needless to say nvidia drivers are a bit of a mess.
