Bluefin and Aurora F41 builds now available

Bluefin And Aurora Fedora 41 Beta Builds now Available

Bluefin and Aurora now have Fedora 41 builds available. :41 and :beta are available for those of you who want to opt in. If you’re doing custom images note that that the main, akmods, kernel-cache, and hwe images are also pushing out :41 and :beta as well. Please file issues as you find them.

You’ll need to use the manual rebase instructions for this one: Administrator's Guide

Don’t worry, everyone will be getting this new autumn wallpaper, a gift from Jacob Schnurr. Some things are busted, namely heic thumbnails, a few extensions, and some intel vappi hw accel, but the builds are green … for everyone except you NVidia users, sorry you failed the saving throw today. Hopefully that will clear up tomorrow or sometime over the next few days.

Release Summary

A quick summary of the release process:

We’re expecting F41 to release on October 29th, at that point :latest will point to F41, and :gts will point to F40.

:stable and :stable-daily will upgrade to F41 a few weeks later. Check the throttle settings docs for more info: Administrator's Guide

Or just ask if you have questions! This release is brought to you mostly by p5, shout out!

OMG yessss. I was wondering when Fedora 41 builds would be released for Bluefin. Looking forward to Gnome 47 (and various fractional scaling fixes for legacy X11 apps, if that is indeed the case).

Defiantly willing to try out Bluefin 41, Gnome 46 wasn’t playing quite nice with my 1080ti but I’ve been having a decent time in Aurora 40 land.

Edit: Smooth travels so far, had to reset from rebasing from another DE but that’s expected.

Tried a rebase for Aurora in a VM. Nothing major I can see, only that after the rebase and reboot SDDM theme is gone and you are greeted with a full white theme on the login screen. Need to go to system settings and to sddm settings and click Apply plasma settings to get the theme back and it seems to be that default KDE theme for 6.2

I kindly request that in the upcoming release announcement that you include a reminder of what will be new for GTS users - mostly a recap of what was new in F40 I guess.

Could you confirm those images come with zstd:chunked ?

If yes, does it mean updates will be significantly lighter ?

I am personally waiting for this moment to switch back to latest

as far as i know, its not implemented fully yet

No we can’t turn on zstd:chunked until bootc/rpm-ostree uses it: zstd:chunked issues · Issue #509 · containers/bootc · GitHub

ProtonVPN propably doesn’t have support for F41 as a package

Yeah, I figured that also… what to do ?

remove/reset your layers and update

Done… It works perfect now. I am on Aurora 41 build

I think it is probably preferable to use the ProtonVPN unofficial flatpak (I’ve been using that on Bluefin with no issues)

Just tried it out and I have no issues so far. My two distroboxes works, flatpaks works, brew works, and I have no layered packages.

The wallpaper has a brown hint though. Not sure if this is a bug or it is just how this wallpaper looks at 5 AM

Yeah this is a regression, see: Background looks washed out during fade · Issue #1814 · ublue-os/bluefin · GitHub

We’ve reverted it and are pushing out new updates nowish.
