Aurora goes Fedora 41
Griaß eich (hello), star travellers.
(Griaß eich = Austrian dialect for hello :D)
Today, we promoted Aurora, based on the fresh and shiny Fedora 41, to the stable channel, which means you can all get a new and improved desktop experience right now. With the release based on Fedora 41, we introduce some cosmetic changes.
Aurora started out as a derivative of Bluefin that I made by cobbling together some Dockerfile knowledge. Some people say that there were attempts on a “Bluefin-KDE” Edition before, but all have failed to deliver. Over time I updated Aurora to keep up with changes that were made to Bluefin, until some magicians made magic happen and reworked the entire bluefin repo to accomodate Aurora and Bluefin together. Stars and dinosaurs, what a lovely and delicious combo!
Over time, we added the official wallpaper from Unsplash which was made Jonatan Pie as he was looking at an Aurora in the wild and the website came online. But there was always demand for more, specifically from my side.
So today, we introduce Aurora 41 with a new wallpaper and a new, refined logo. You’ll first notice the new logo when you upgrade and your start button changes if you’ve left it default. Your login, lock and desktop screen wallpaper will also change if you’re on our default Aurora theme.
You have a colorful option for your start button and a white one for those who have prefer a simpler one. Extra ones to be added soon! (If you have ideas, lmk )
The website also features this wallpaper and lots of refined elements compared to the previous version, extra cheekiness added.
The wallpaper perfectly captures what you should envision your computer capable of doing with Aurora as your desktop operating system: everything.
Only the sky is the limit.
Whats new in KDE on Fedora F41?
Truth be told, you won’t find revolutionary changes coming to you when you upgrade to our latest release. Fedora already released KDE 6.2.2 to Fedora 40 a couple of weeks ago, the same time as Fedora 41. Until KDE switches to a release cadence like GNOME, you will experience rolling updates of KDE versions across all Aurora channels.
So you might wonder, what’s new with the KDE 6.2 release?

Hint: if you use drawing tablets, you might be excited about this release!
