Hello beautiful community, first of all, I apologize for my English, but I will explain myself as clearly as possible. According to Bazzitte, there is no official support for eGPUs, but I have used mine with Thunderbolt 4 and an Nvidia graphics card. I played Dead Island 2 with a keyboard and mouse without “issues” within the limits I want to explain next. When the eGPU is active, the Handheld Daemon completely stops working, so I have no control over the CPU of the Asus ROG Ally X, and the controls don’t work.
It’s obvious that the experience is poor because of this. I think that if someone has an AMD graphics card, they won’t have these problems, and the experience would be completely perfect. But I repeat, if Nvidia is active, for some reason beyond my understanding, the Handheld Daemon disconnects and doesn’t work.
To make it work, there are several simple steps. The first is to be in desktop mode, connect the Thunderbolt 4, and set it to remember the connection forever. The second step is to completely power off the console, keep the eGPU connected and powered on, and when you turn on Bazzitte, it recognizes it as if it were a native Nvidia graphics card. You install the corresponding drivers, and you can play. However, in the case of my handheld PC, I have those issues. Knowing this detail, I am sure that with an AMD graphics card, everything would work without errors, but since I don’t have an AMD graphics card, I can’t test it. However, with an Nvidia card using the eGPU with the Asus ROG Ally X, it has worked for me with ultra-smooth graphics.
I say this and emphasize it because I have never seen anyone on YouTube or any forum mention this, so let it be clear that there is native support. Thank you, and I hope I have explained myself clearly.
