I just set up bazzite. I am connected to wifi and download updates ok. When I try to login using the username and password I set up during installation it won’t let me past the login screen. It keeps saying it can’t connnect to steam. When I click offline mode nothing happens. I’m guessing it is impossible to login without a steam account which I don’t have. Is that true?
Umm, no?
Steam login and Bazzite account login are two different things. The username and password you setup during Bazzite setup are for your Bazzite account only. And yes, it works completely offline.
To login to Steam, you need a separate steam account. Full Stop.
The first login and password field you see on booting your computer are for your Bazzite account. You can only access the Steam program once you have logged into the Bazzite accout (It loads on startup unless set otherwise).
Ok, I’m glad to hear that. I wouldn’t want to not be able to have access to the PC without logging into Steam. So then why am I unable to login using my bazzite account to the GUI? I can login on the command line on tty with no problem, but in the GUI using the same username and password it says “Steam server unavailable” and gives me a “offline mode” button that doesn’t work. Does it matter that I used the deck-stable-live iso for the install?
The main GUI for the Deck/HTPC Bazzite images is Steam’s controller focused UI. This requires a Steam account, as it’s Steam you’re logging in to.
If you want to use Bazzite without Steam, don’t use the Deck Images. They won’t do what you need.
Ok. Thanks. That’s what I was wondering.
