I want to enable X11 so Barrier works (Wayland doesn’t pop a window), but when I go into etc/default/ I see no file to enable X11. Prior to this in 2.5 there was a file with the true/false boolean inside…
Our FAQ has the solution. Fedora 40 removed X11 from KDE Plasma, and we only kept it around for our Nvidia images since their proprietary drivers still have issues with Wayland.
One package has to be layered with this command in a host terminal:
rpm-ostree install plasma-workspace-x11
Reboot after it finishes layering and X11 should be a choice again.
I used the command. I then switched to x11 in the bottom left, but when I then try to login the screen goes black for a second and I need to login again. So it just doesn’t seem to work
X11 is dead, we stopped supporting it a long time ago.
In Fedora it exists purely because third-party packagers have put it on life support. There’s no reason for it to be used on a gaming os, it’s a downgrade in every capacity.
Please note that if you’re using it our first answer during any support request is going to be to remove it first before opening a request.
I had some issues activating DSC so I thought switching would fix it maybe. (I have no clue what I’m doing).
(I’m on NVIDIA with a 4080S and a 4K 240hz Monitor)
On 240hz everything is laggy and the screen turns black occasionally and I have no idea how to activate it. Or even check if it’s on.
Also some games seem to use false resolutions or have a pixel line at the edge of the screen. I thought x11 might fix that. If not is there any other way to do this?
