I seem to break things, and have questions about drive image backups.
I’ve been booting a clonezilla USB, dropping to a shell, and using ddrescue to create either drive-to-drive copies, or drive to image file copies.
It would seem that this would preserve everything about the drive;system, and allow me to use the same process to restore from a backup drive or image.
My home folder is on a separate drive, so no problems losing my data when I restore a backup.
But, mixed with my breakage of other things, I think these backups are good, but would like to hear thoughts from others.
I don’t use secure boot, but wonder if there are UEFI ramifications to doing this, rather than reinstalling.
I also wonder about ~/ potentially being out of sync with root, such as ~/.var.
