What’s been going on with Bazzite lately?

For some time now, I’ve been having recurring issues with Decky, and I can’t figure out why. Somehow, Decky keeps breaking. Recently, switching to Desktop Mode takes forever, and then an error message appears saying that the connection to X isn’t possible. The issues seem to be related, but why, and is there a way to fix this? And if so, how? I feel like Bazzite is getting worse with every update. I’m on the verge of switching back to SteamOS because it doesn’t have nearly as many issues as I’ve experienced with Bazzite over the past three months. What’s going on?

Please contact the decky team for any decky related issues, we don’t maintain it and it broke fairly often on SteamOS as well.

The X connection issue is something with Steam that our dev team has not been able to reproduce. You are the 3rd report so far since 41 went live. If you can provide a log showing the issue that may help.

Same for the long desktop switch times. The best thing to do is open issues in GitHub and provide as much detail as possible.

Thank you for the response. I just need to ask a few questions, as I’m not very familiar with the Linux world. First, where can I find the log, and to whom should I send it? (Sorry, this might be a bit silly, but my English isn’t very strong.) The problem with the slow loading when switching to the desktop only occurs when X has issues. What helped temporarily was switching from Stable to Beta in Gaming Mode, rebooting, and then going back to Stable. Then X works again until it breaks once more. This is the current situation.

What’s the best log file to look in for this kind of issue, or is it a case of digging through the syslog?

I’ll open a GitHub issue once I can provide logs.

Hello, I uninstalled Decky, but it had NO effect—the error still reappeared afterward. Currently, it’s not happening anymore, but I have no idea why. Additionally, I noticed that with non-Steam games, there’s an error message in Gaming Mode or sometimes not. The game doesn’t seem to start when I bridge using the Steam menu button, but the game is actually open? The on-screen keyboard doesn’t work either because the overlay doesn’t show up. All very strange.

So, I took the time to try out all my Flatpacks that use the X-server. The on-screen keyboard doesn’t work in either Desktop or Gaming mode when I start the game from Steam. I also noticed the same issue with the Heroic Games Launcher—no on-screen keyboard. Hmm, a long time ago, I had issues with Gamescope and Heroic. Could it be that when I manually installed Gamescope back then, Heroic didn’t have any issues, and that’s why there are problems now?
