ROG Ally - fingerprint reader

Anyone know if the integrated fingerprint reader on the ROG Ally works in KDE?

nope, there’s no driver available for the fp reader.

chimeraOS devs previously reached out to Asus about trying to write a driver for the fp sensor, but nothing came out of the conversation.

so the fp sensor will probably be unsupported for the forseeable future.

Nothing has changed in this regards? I have a ROG Ally, and as always when it’s available, fingerprint is just super convenient.

If it doesn’t work, can someone screenshot the on-screen keyboard for password input when waking up? Actually, can you selectively sleep without locking on gamemode and sleep with locking on KDE mode?

The onscreen password input for game mode is the same as the Steam Deck’s password pin screen, you can see it in Steam’s post here: Steam Deck - The Lock Screen Update - Steam News

You can have the lock screen for the Steam pin in three places:

  • show pin lock screen on wake from sleep
  • show pin lock screen on switch to Desktop mode
  • show pin lock screen before logging into Steam on the device

You can input the Steam pin via the touchscreen, or attached game controller, or external game controller.

Besides that, you can also enabled the regular KDE lock screen via the Screen Locking settings in KDE Desktop mode

however, for the KDE lockscreen, you’ll need to enable the maliit virtual keyboard. Otherwise, you won’t have a virtual keyboard for input in the KDE lock screen

the KDE lockscreen only appears if you lock the device while in desktop mode

That doesn’t seem too annoying. I’d still rather just have fingerprint scanner working, but I can deal with this.
