Re-evaluating Flatseal on KDE vs KDE permissions

I think the KDE permissions system may be at a stage where Flatseal could be considered redundant on KDE systems. In the past there may have been areas where it was missing options/variables or something was allowed access that should not have been allowed/etc…. But currently from what I can see the options are now like for like… ported over from Flatseal…just in a different order.

Any thoughts on this?

Its a flatpak so you can just remove it if you don’t need it

Does plasma have all the features flatseal provides integrated in the system settings?

If yes I agree with you. As flatpak is getting more and more the main package and app distribution system of Linux its settings would become synonymous with system settings like network etc.

So I agree that it would streamline the process.

That not the point of the question here. Redundant apps have no reason to be pre-installed on OS setup.

Well the thing is, that bazaar integrates flatpak permissions into App Store by using flatseal, so I think it’s not redundant

Bazaar and Flatseal are two separate apps. Bazaar can utilize the KDE flatpak permision manager instead of flatseal.

Personally I like flatseal tbh and in case it gets removed from the main image I will keep using it.

Still If it can be skipped without losing important features then I think it should.

I agree but one day it will. The app can still be removed from the KDE instance. Does not sound very symmetrical IMHO and I would prefer personally that it removed only when gnome has its own settings page for it. As always devs know much better and we just communicate opinions here.

Ok, good to know that Bazaar currently needs/uses flatseal for permissions management. :+1: Thanks for all the input everyone! Maybe sometime in the future I hope KDE permissions can work with Bazaar.

I know Bazaar is still actively being developed so maybe I will add this as a suggestion on github for the long-term. Bazaar 3.0 still has not been pushed out to the stable release for bazzite (currently at 2.3) 3.0 has a bunch of fixes and other stuff from the looks of it…and then there is the work of making it into a flatpak.

After that it might be a good long-term idea to make sure it works with kde permissions.
