On the download page there’s a warning:
Looking for Bluefin GTS? GTS ISOs are currently unavailable but will return in Spring 2025.
Why is that? I found this but it’s about Plasma version so it doesn’t apply to Bluefin and Gnome.
The old download link:
https://download.projectbluefin.io/bluefin-gts.iso
appears to be working, is that iso valid?
There’s a bug in the GTS ISOs that we can’t account for so we can’t make ISOs of GTS right now, which is why they’re not on the website.
The old ISOs work but I recommend updating to the latest image immediately after installation.
The note “but will return in Spring 2025.” - is that still accurate? I’m guessing the plan is to not fix the F40 GTS ISO, and just wait for GTS to be F41 based..?
If that’s the case, is there any chance of bumping GTS to F41 a few weeks early (ie now) and restoring the installation ISOs?
The majority of the benefit that GTS gives users over stable (the delayed update to the next Fedora release) is felt in the immediate weeks and months after a release. By now I’m sure it would be pretty safe to roll GTS forward.
Wouldn’t it be same as rebasing to stable
channel for now and then when gts is moved to F41, you can rebase back to it.
Stable will move to F42 before GTS is planned to move to F41, so users would need to hold back updates at the right time before they rebase back to GTS to ensure they aren’t upgraded to F42.
Technically I think you’re right, but it would require careful attention from users.
Updating GTS to F41 early might be an easy way to restore GTS ISOs for users.
It’s the other way around, GTS will move to F41 first, it’s stable that has the ~2 week delay to F42.
If you want GTS “early” I recommend just rebasing to :41
specifically right now then just moving to the gts
tag when it’s out.
I don’t personally want it early.. was just wondering if that could let you restore the GTS ISOs sooner. The GTS edition is what I normally refer people to, especially for folks using an LTS today and who are fearful of the latest Fedora being too cutting edge, and it’s a shame that I can’t refer those folks to an installer.
Believe me, no one is more pissed off than I am, our primary product has been unavailable for months.
Ultimately we’re out of spoons when it comes to trying to fix F40 ISOs, at this point we’re waiting the few weeks and then shooting F40 in the head and moving on.
On the plus side apparently Anaconda is getting better but I wouldn’t put too much faith in that lol.
