I just installed Bluefin Linux on my Microsoft Surface Pro 6 using the version with the Surface kernel. The installation completed without issues, but on first boot (GNOME), I found that:
The trackpad works, but the keyboard is unresponsive, making it impossible to finish the initial setup.
I have a USB keyboard on the way to complete the setup, but I’m wondering:
Will reinstalling or updating the Surface-specific kernel fix this keyboard issue?
If so, will I need to repeat this process every time there’s a kernel update?
Any insights from those who have experienced this would be appreciated!
Actually this Surface Pro 6 belongs to a friend who is in a different country, and I was assisting with the installation over a video call… We’re currently waiting for a USB keyboard to continue, so it might take a bit of time due to the time zone difference. Once we complete the setup and are fully into GNOME, I will check if the keyboard issue persists and update you.
Appreciate the quick feedback and the information about the recent changes to the image. I’ll keep you posted.
My friend managed to get a USB keyboard and plugged it in, but initially, it wasn’t working either. However, after rebooting the device with the USB keyboard already plugged in, both the USB keyboard and the Surface tablet keyboard started working.
Before this, we had tried several reboots without success. It seems that having the USB keyboard connected before the tablet booted up was enough to resolve the issue. I’m not sure why this worked, but it’s a workaround that got us through the setup.
Hope this helps anyone else facing a similar issue!
