Hi, I am relatively new to linux gaming but I tried to install Fjord launcher for minecraft because of better support for FTB packs.
So I followed flatpak install instructions but I get the following:
The application org.unmojang.FjordLauncher/x86_64/master requires the runtime org.kde.Platform/x86_64/6.8 which was not found
Now keep in mind I am not the most linux savvy person even though I have previous experience with Ubuntu but I really am not much of a big tinkerer.
Do I need to change some configs or whats going on? I thought flatpaks tend to work ootb most of the time bc dependencies are bundled. From what I understood it is missing a dependency though.
I recommend using appimage versions you can find in their github page: Release Fjord Launcher 9.4.2 · unmojang/FjordLauncher · GitHub
Download the one that says “FjordLauncher-Linux-x86_64.AppImage” and when you double click it it should open with Gear Lever (it is preinstalled in Bazzite.) It will take care of installation, shortcuts etc.
Try that and let me know how it goes.
well for me it is not preinstalled tbh but it might be worth a try. is it any less clean than flatpak though?
As far as I’m concerned, appimage is much cleaner than flatpak. It’s still containarized, it has all its dependencies packed in itself. It’s a simple click and use application.
Install Gear Lever as flatpak and let it do the installation. By installation I mean creating shortcuts. You don’t actually install an appimage. Gear Lever just creates the necessary .desktop file so you can have the start menu shortcut, that’s all.
