Inconsistent update information/unsure if update is working

Hey guys and thanks for helping, loving Bazzite.

I used to update my ROG Ally X’s Bazzite via HHD “updates” until around last month where suddenly there would be update issues- HHD would download the new update, but then when I click “apply update” it wouldn’t show any error, it would just be unresponsive thereby not applying the update.

So I changed to desktop and clicked on “system update”.

It seemed to work as I now get the following-

Clicking on “Apply Update” gives no response, I check info center-

Which seems to still show 42.20250903: Stable (F42.20250903) as my current version, despite the fact that I should have been updated to 42.20251002: Stable (F42.20251002) according to System Update.

When I go back to Gaming Mode, HHD continues to show that I am on 0903, but SteamOS (Gaming Mode) seems to be on Oct 03 update.

But steam will continue to bug me to update, showing “Steam Deck Client Update: October 2nd” in their release channel from the steamOS system menu…even though I am already on the Oct 3 update?

Anyways, if there is someway to solve this that would be very helpful, I think there is some inconsistency somewhere that’s causing “Update System” to think I am on the latest Bazzite update and not need updating, and I have no clue about what steamos is doing…and I’m just stuck on the 0903 version, unable to update until this is somehow solved.

HHD hand held daemon doesn’t update bazzite. rather, bazzite updates HHD. the apply updates button in hhd would only apply updates to things like plugins for hhd. bazzite itself uses ujust to update. there should be a system update icon in the apps menu that would open a terminal to run ujust for you.

now as for steam, there are different release channels for software and you and I don’t know what release channel bazzite is on so it could be asking you to update to a stable or beta channel but I suspect bazzite is on the other. bazzite will keep your steam updated to the release that works with bazzite. ujust is checking for updates regularly even without you running it manually.

Thanks for the response, it makes sense that steam is going off of a different release channel than what bazzite can handle.

Couple follow up questions-

  1. If HHD doesn’t update bazzite, then why does it have an update screen, specifically indicating that it updates the bazzite version (shown in image). And why is it telling me I’m out of date, after updating manually via ujust? Asking genuinely.

  2. Why is my info center showing Kernel Version: 6.16.4-104 after I updated? When (at the time of this message) the latest version should be 6.16.4-114? 42.20251002: Stable (F42.20251002)
