I posted this on Reddit, but figured I’d post it here to see if there’s any other interest. If feature requests are submitted elsewhere, please do let me know and I’ll redirect it there. Thanks!
Basically, what I want is the reverse flow of the deck image. With the deck image, it boots into game mode by default, with a clever method to restart into the desktop mode. What I’d like to see is the KDE (and probably GNOME) image to have the same functionality in reverse where it boots into desktop mode by default, has all the advantages of the desktop image, but has a “restart in game mode” option with the advantages that brings.
My computer is always primarily a tool, but the game mode option would allow for different default refresh settings between the two modes (helping with VA panel text ghosting on the desktop) along with the efficiency of reduced services in game mode.
There is a way to do this on other OS, not sure if it works on Bazzite Desktop though, but does work on Fedora
Create a new file called gaming.desktop in ~/.local/share/wayland-sessions/ with the following content to launch Steam in full screen mode via Gamescope:
Then logout and when loging back in, you can select the gaming session in the bottom left corner, you can also install Plasma-Mobile, and Plasma-Bigscreen and do the same, just logout, and then log back in choosing the GUI you want.
Thanks! I’ll give this a try, but I’d still like this option baked into Bazzite since it’s identified as a gaming friendly OS, and does appear to have some of the best options already installed.
Thanks again for the info and I’ll let you know if it works.
