It’s well known that HDMI 2.1 is inoperable on Linux, due to the HDMI Forum being jerks and as such you are limited to 4K/120 VRR w/8-bit HDR 420. While this mode looks decent, I would still like to use full HDMI 2.1 and there is a way that works…when it wants to.
I had been looking through reddit forums and apparently this CableMatters DP-to-HDMI2.1 cable worked.
I bought it and it did indeed work. Yes, I checked on my LG C1 and sure enough I was getting full 10-bit 444 4K/120 with VRR. It worked perfectly…until the next day when it just stopped working and Bazzite would only recognize 60Hz as the top resolution. I just gave up quickly and returned it.
However, I decided to rebuy the cable and I was wondering if anyone knows of commands to specifically force Bazzite to use 120 Hz and set the color spacing manually? Any help would be appreciated, as this really was a great solution that gives all the benefits of HDMI2.1.
