Heyooo, i’m new here and i wanted to try out Bazzite again, the last time i tried it i had to suffer from Cisco blocking my system updates because my country is geoblocked, is Bazzite still using OpenH264? :PP
I don’t know for sure, but I’m leaning towards thinking Bazzite no longer has OpenH264. In the release notes for the current Bazzite version, 44.20260713: Stable (F44.20260713):

To me, that implies they removed OpenH264 in that release. Also (though I’m not sure if this is how to check for existence), doing:
openh264 --version
in Terminal gives me:
bash: openh264: command not found

Unfortunately, most of what I can find on this is from AI summaries in search engines. I can’t find anything by real people. What it looks like is Fedora has replaced openh264 with noopenh264 in some of its atomic desktops (and since Bazzite is based off Fedora, it looks like they’re doing it too). From what I’m reading, noopenh264 is just a stub program that satisfies dependencies instead of actually doing anything. It looks like Bazzite comes with both ffmpeg and gstreamer (they show up in the changelogs).
That’s great! I can also install flatpaks without them complaining about openh264 :PP
