I haven’t found a way to change the GDM login screen background. I’ve tried gdm-settings, and gnome-tweaks but neither actually have any impact. Anyone know how to go about this? I just want the login screen background to match my desktop and lockscreen background
I haven’t tried these steps myself, but I did find this from the GNOME stable admin docs.
Of course, these docs are clear as mud. But hopefully will serve as a starting point.
FYI, gnome-tweaks is no longer maintained and has been deprecated. There has not been a release since GNOME 46 I found out recently.
Good luck.
thanks, I tried these steps and it only updates the regular desktop wallpaper. The GDM login screen background remains unchanged, gray background with the bluefin logo
Remember the user profile will only effect the screen after login.
You’ll need to dig through the other links on that page to change the appearance of the system gdm screen.
I did that once - probably 20 years ago. And certainly not on an atomic desktop.
But the answer is off that page somewhere.
The use case they cite is for an organization to configure their branding.
Good luck.
GDM has it’s own dconf db, which doesn’t seem to have a setting for background-image. I found severaI options, none of which work on immutable distros. Then I found this GDM extension which allows for a lot of customization and works well in Bluefin:
