Bluefin - GNOME not loading correctly

Hi all,

I’ve been having an odd issue with Bluefin for the last couple of days. When logging into the GNOME shell, it seems to me there are some services that don’t load correctly.

Symptoms:

  • The Dock does not appear. It is only accessible via the Super key overview.
  • The U Universal Blue menu does not appear in the top left corner
  • Super+Space keyboard shortcut does not summon the ‘Spotlight’ search field (I don’t recall what it’s called on GNOME)

I’m currently running Bluefin DX stable-daily, and am all up to date. I’m not sure this is an issue with the OS image, as I’ve tried rebasing back a couple of weeks to a known-working image, and the issues persist. I’ve attached a screenshot to both illustrate what I see, and provide system info and bootc status.

I’ve also tried:

  • Removing the only layered package I have installed
  • Rebasing back to stable and taking that back a few weeks
  • Looked through recent GitHub issues etc. As I say I doubt this is an issue with the image, as I’m the only one seemingly affected!

I’m assuming I’ve got a corrupted config file or similar somewhere, as no manual settings have been changed, but I’m not quite sure where to start looking for logs etc to track down the problem. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

You could create a new user.
That would let you know if it is a config issue.

Have you added any extensions? You could try disabling them in Rxtension Manager.

Thanks @JohnAtl!

Issue wasn’t present on a newly created user account. Had a look at Extension Manager, and somehow the global extensions toggle had been switched off, so obviously none were loading!

I’ll mark your reply as the solution to close the thread. Thanks again!
