2in1 Auto-Rotate Aurora

Hi all. Im on Aurora-dx-hwe on my Thinkpad x12 2-in-1 and loving it.

The only issue I have is significant and frequent, in regards to auto-rotation mainly in the tablet mode. I’ve had times where the hotfix works, or an update and restart works. I’ve attempted to make sure the sensor drivers are working correctly, which they appear to be. I’ve had other-times where the restart works for a second or a few, and then stops.

Anyone else offer suggestions or handholding to make sure I can rely on this platform?

TIA.

Is this specific to Aurora, or does it also occur on upstream Fedora? Does booting from a Fedora live USB show the same behavior?

Fedora Live usb worked. I installed Kinoite and it’s been working ever since (a few hours).

The same automatic orientation on Display settings on Aurora just would not work.

Why were you on HWE? The thinkpad should be supported by the standard kernel pretty well.

I thought I read that HWE kernel supports the surface type machines better. Do I have that wrong?

It had stuff for Surface not anything else, dont think the thinkpad uses any of the surface hardware.

But anyway HWE images are already removed and wont get any updates so better to get off them

I don’t have any Lenovo’s except for a Legion Go, but I do have a few Dell Latitudes, 4 of them are detachable surface like devices, and one is a convertible, screen rotation functions perfectly on 42 with all of them, only tested one with Bazzite 43 and that is working perfectly, I have another running Aurora 42, I’ll update that and see how it pans out.

Edit: Upgraded Aurora 42 to 43 on a Latitude 7200 2 in 1, auto screen rotation works as expected on both versions, so definitely something related to the Lenovo specifically I think.

I think inffy and Nihaiden are right on the money. The HWE variation probably fouled it up. Pretty stable now on dx.

Anyway to get it working again after update without reboot?

sorry, didn’t fully get what you mean. Updates need a reboot to deploy.

Having issues again unfortunately.

I usually need to restart twice to get it working again. Not once but twice for some reason.

Then I only get one or two rotations before it locks into an orientation and I need to restart again.

Can you disable rotation lock in the display settings all together? I personally don’t like it, and have mine all set to landscape only, might be a better option than have it lock up in a orientation you don’t want.
