Hi
Linux newb. Basically I know enough to get myself into trouble and not enough to know when I’m getting myself into trouble.
Am currently testing my steam library using Bazzite as a way to morph from windows for gaming. So far, besides some audio issues, this has gone pretty well with my small selection of games
Have a ZimaOS home server running jellyfin which has shares configured by ZimaOS gui using SMB and password protection. Windows sees the shares with no problems. I have not “tweaked” anything outside the provided GUI.
Trying to see these shares in Bazzrite with little success. Dolphin file browser tells me there are no shares, however I can ping the server with no probs. Bazzite does see the SMB shares from my old NAS (QNAP) with no issues and prompts for username and password and provides access, so not sure what the go is. Clearly the SMB client aspect is working, Tried to mount the shares, but was unsuccessful.
Have done a heap of searching, but TBH am worried that I might break something more. Could anyone point me in the right direction regarding what I might have done wrong/need to tweak to get this to learn.
Appreciate your patience with what what I assume is a pretty simple task.
Can ping ZimaOs device by both IP and name successfully. Smb share \myip\multimedia works from windows. Will post pics when back in front of device :-). Cheers
Hi
Many thanks for your reply. I have been digging and realise it appears to be the account details stopping access. I created another share on the NAS with guest access for R/W and this has worked. Clearly, there is something I am doing wrong with accessing the share?
With my old QNAP, I get prompted for a username and password when hitting the share. For whatever reason, I am not prompted when accessing the SMB share on ZimaOS.
Output of smb://10.0.0.4 below (showing now the “test” folder setup with guest permissions. The other shared folders (using account credentials) are not viewable
Perfect! Can you show me the zimmaOS share options? I would like to see the levels of access it gives you on the share. you might have the visibility set to hidden instead of private or something.
Can you restart the ZimmaBoard? Then try to connect again and see if the shares are advertised then? Also can you turn the guest access off for test BEFORE the restart and see if you can still connect and if it asks for credentials after ?
