In the past devbox was one of the main tools of bluefin. Now it has been removed from the web page. Is there any reason for this decision?
Yeah we don’t support nix in our images any more (SELinux issues, etc.) so we had to remove this. Pretty sure some people still use it though and it should work if you post-install on a bluefin system.
I was thinking on using in on my blue-build project, can you relate me the issues you faced so I can take a decision with more information?
It’s back in the changelog somewhere I took a quick look but couldn’t find anything useful.
I found this installer which is supposed to work with sle linux and silverblue. I will try, I can give you feedback if you want
Yeah, that installer works. I was using Nix up until recently with no idea about any SELinux issues, but when I re-installed I opted not to use it. I’m not sure what the issues were, lol, but I’ve been fine without.
https://mise.jdx.dev/ and containers basically replace it for me in development, and my home manager setup is basically replaced by Brew and layering in my custom image.
Mise looks really well but I do not find where it gets all packages, is it brew? Is quite similar to devbox actually
Most packages are from plugins for asdf, another similar tool. They’re basically tool-specific scripts that get the binaries from official sources. There are other backends too, though Backends | mise-en-place
