I’ve been using Aurora on my Framework 13 laptop as a dualboot system alongside Windows 11.
Since I haven’t needed to touch Windows all this time (5+ months), I’d rather get that space back and dedicate the entire laptop to Aurora.
What’s the easiest way to back up my current Aurora system and recover it once I’ve reinstalled the OS?
Is there a specific directory (or multiple) that can simply be copied over, or will I also have to also use Warehouse to back up any data for installed Flatpaks?
Or… would it just be easier to delete the Windows partition, fix the bootloader, and be done with it? LOL
Anyway, it wouldn’t be the end of the world if I had to manually set things up again, but I’m hoping there’s just an “easy” way to do this.
UPDATE: So, I took what I expected to be the easiest route, and it worked flawlessly. I deleted Windows in the EFI directory, deleted the Windows partitions, removed the Windows entry from Grub, then use gparted live USB to move partitions and expand the Aurora partition. New issues at all.
@Clapper5530 I developed a personal policy to get myself prepared to reinstall at any moment. This involved making sure I had adequate tested backups and post-install check lists that are continuously updated and ready to be used at any moment.
This was put together as a lesson learned when my laptop died unexpectedly in the middle of a project. sigh.
Once I had that policy in place whenever I encounter something like what you are describing … I just reinstall - knowing I will be back working again in just a few hours.
And, yes, I was shocked when I came to that realization. But I find it much less stressful to apply good professional IT best practices (albeit at a much smaller scale) to my personal devices.
It may not be the easiest, but it is the least risky and prepares for the long term.
